This is a superior reflective blend that stays on the skin to fight photo-aging damage. Leaves skin super hydrated, soft and with more of a natural skin color.

All natural organic Non-micronized Zinc Oxide Sunscreen, no nanoparticles, for all skins is hand blended with safe non-micronized Zinc. This formula is simple and effective with NO chemicals, NO parabens, NO preservatives! It is the safest sun protection available - it’s safe enough for babies. Will not clog your pores or sting your eyes.

Sunscreens are the #1 step in anti-aging, the strongest age prevention product in any skin care line. Our all natural sunscreens are used to protect skin against photo-aging and premature aging in the daily commute and errands after work. Potent organic ingredients are blended for UVA and UVB skin protection. The formulas are concentrated and must be used daily. Sunscreens offer broad-spectrum protection (UVA and UVB rays). All have antioxidants to enhance protection plus botanicals and vitamins to help skin stay healthy. SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY KEEPS THE WRINKLES AWAY! It is always advisable to hydrate the skin before applying the SPF Moisturizers. This may be accomplished by using a hydrating gel or a serum. This is especially true for clients with sensitive skin or those who have experienced discomfort with sunscreen agents.

When using natural sun screen products, apply over all other skin care products in the morning. Allow to “soak in” before applying makeup. Reapply as needed if exposed to direct sunlight. Sunscreen products are not the place to save money in your cosmetic budget - this is health care!

* Broad spectrum protection (UVA + UVB)
* Formulated for all skins, anti-aging and skin firming
* Excellent for oily and acne skins
* Modern formula - paraben free
* Use daily, no "ashy" look

Apply daily after serum and before moisturizer. Reapply every couple of hours if working or playing out in the sun.

Organic Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel Hydrosol, Lavender Hydrosol, Zinc Oxide, Hyaluronic Acid, DMAE, MSM, Vitamin B3, GABA, Red Iron Oxide, AB Natural Preservative System of Black Willowbark, Essential Oils, Neem, Rooibos Tea, Rosemary, Vitamin E.

Note on Clear Zinc: It is hard to believe that it is possible to make an invisible shield of ZnO without compromising its UVA I protection, as some manufacturers claim. A thought about Nano particle technology: Little is known about the safety issues, particularly with long term usage, surrounding this sci-fi advance in technology.

Safe Fun in the Summer Sun

Sunshine is vital to life and yet its power, in extended exposure, can do so much damage. Although most of us like to spend time outdoors, the sun is your skin's worst enemy. Sun exposure is the primary cause of premature aging, brown spots, wrinkles, and skin cancer.

Sun Facts:
* Snow, sand, water, concrete and glass reflect sunlight
* Clouds do not protect you from the damaging UV rays
* The higher the altitude the more intense the sun gets (6% every 1000 feet)
* The sun is responsible for the majority of melanoma
* The sun's UV rays can penetrate many types of clothing
* Dry, dehydrated skin, burns more easily than well hydrated skin
* The sun can damage your eyes, increasing the risk of cataracts, macular degeneration, and eyelid cancers

What's so good about Zinc Oxide? Why better than Titanium Oxide? Since both of these ingredients are inorganic, what makes Zinc Oxide safer than Titanium Oxide?
First and foremost, we use non-micronized Zinc Oxide, which is 120 nanometers (.12 microns). Micronized particles (those less than 100 nanometers) have caused concern due to their small size. Zinc Oxide in our sunblock is well above this limit to ensure your safety. Some zinc oxide is coated in unnatural dimethicone but ours is not coated with this.

Zinc oxide has been used as the natural blocking agent as it is the only ingredient synthetic chemical or natural to effectively provide comprehensive protection against UVB and both short and long UVA radiation.

Zinc oxide is the closest thing to a total sunblock on the market today. It uniformly covers from 290 to 380 nm, thus protecting against UVB and most of the UVA spectrum. No other sunscreen ingredient provides broader protection. And unlike many chemical sunscreen agents, zinc oxide is never irritating. In fact, it is recognized by the Food and Drug Administration as a Category I skin protectant, meaning that it is safe for compromised or environmentally challenged skin.

Zinc oxide has over a 300-year history of safety, with no known adverse reactions (which is why it is often used to treat babies). It is ideal for use in sunscreens and daily moisturizers.

Zinc Oxide, non-micronized, provides broad spectrum sun protection that is safe and gentle for babies and sensitive skin. Zinc Oxide is also commonly used as the main ingredient in diaper rash creams - so you can feel good about slathering this on your little ones! Because it does not usually cause allergic reaction the way Titanium Dioxide does, you can use Zinc Oxide sunscreens on your face and even as under-eye protection.

About UV Rays, Sunscreens and SPF
There are three types of ultraviolet (UV) rays: UVA, UVB and UVC (UVCs are almost totally absorbed by the ozone layer). UVB rays are primarily responsible for sunburn and are the only of the three rays to be accounted for in the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) rating. Astonishingly, UVA rays have not been formally tested to receive an SPF rating. This is especially surprising since UVA rays constitute 90-95% of all the UV light reaching the earth. UVAs are not absorbed by the ozone layer and are present year-round. Their short and long wave rays penetrate the furthest into the skin which can cause premature aging, more aggressive skin cancers, and suppressed immune function.

There are two types of sun protective products: chemical and physical. Chemical sunscreens absorb UV rays while physical sunblocks work by reflecting and/or scattering UV rays and radiation. Chemical sunscreens have three primary defects beyond being synthetic: they are powerful free-radical generators, they readily accumulate within the body, and they often have strong estrogenic activities. This estrogenic activity not only disrupts hormone balances in both men and women, it can also can suppress thyroid hormone production, increase cancers and cancer growth, and cause birth defects as well as a host of other medical problems. Fortunately there is a naturally occurring, and totally safe, physical option for protection: zinc oxide. Zinc oxide provides comprehensive protection against UVB and both types of UVA making it the closest thing you can get to a complete sunblock. In addition to providing the broadest protection available, it is non-irritating (many chemical sunscreens can aggravate the skin) and actually soothes the skin.

To maintain healthy, happy skin, you must seal in your hydrating gel with a moisturizer at night and a moisturizer and/or sunscreen during the day. This concept is similar to a greenhouse: plants are watered then covered with plastic to prevent the water from evaporating. When water is allowed to evaporate through the skin, it is called transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Moisturizers help prevent TEWL.

The skin loses a lot of its natural moisture through evaporation. Skin is particularly affected by extremes of temperature, sun exposure, wind exposure, and drying (low humidity) conditions found in centrally heated buildings and airplanes. Use of harsh soaps, astringents, or medications will also affect the moisture level of the skin. To counteract these factors, skin needs a moisturizer with the correct proportions of water and oil to form a suitable barrier. We have included Hyaluronic Acid to help maintain the proper level of skin moisture. For best results, moisturizers should be applied to skin that is still damp from cleansing or toning. When moisturizers are applied to damp skin, the skin can hold more water; this temporarily plumps up fine, parched lines. Moisturizers also work to protect your skin against environmental pollution and free radical attack, which leads to aging. Skins may require different moisturizers for day use and night use or at different times of the year.

Nothing helps guard skin from the signs of aging more than sun protection. Our sunscreen offers broad-spectrum protection (UVA and UVB rays), has anti-oxidants to enhance protection, plus botanicals and vitamins to help skin stay healthy.

Zinc forms a natural reflecting sunscreen for a wide physical UV block and is actually a skin healer. Our light oil free sunscreen is better for oily and acneic skins and those not wanting a heavy oily residue on their skin. Perfect for the daily routine of commuting-working-errands. We use only non-micronized oxides in a base of pure organic aloe vera gel and hydrosols. This blend is naturally thickened with seaweed, is very lightweight, extremely hydrating and soothing with a nice cool feel when applied - there is no sticky residue or greasy feel. Our Parasol sun block is a natural sunscreen with mild physical reflecting properties, not absorbing ones. Zinc oxide is considered the single best broad spectrum sunscreen (protecting from UV A and UV B rays). Rule of thumb: 10% active ingredients corresponds to an SPF of about 8-11 and ours is a little stronger at 12% or so, around a 15 Sun Protection Factor. Great for the whole family for light to moderate face to toe protection!

Non-micronized zinc oxide means the particles are larger than the micronized version. This results in a stronger reflection of photo-aging rays and a safer sunscreen that is not absorbed into the bloodstream. Many of the newer sunscreens will screen out both UVA and UVB. A combination agent which contains zinc oxide is the best. Specifically a sun block only measures the amount of sun protection that can be caused from ultraviolet B rays (causes sunburn) and not ultraviolet A rays (causes photo aging and skin cancer). Typically an SPF of 15 is recommended. The use of sun blocking agents with the addition of zinc oxide is extremely helpful in reducing all exposure to the sun’s rays. Physical sunscreens offer complete UVA and UVB protection without the irritation potential and instability associated with certain chemical sunscreens. Our sunscreen incorporates zinc oxide, non-micronized, for non-irritating, non-allergenic, photo-stable properties as an effective physical sun block. A Category l skin protectant, zinc provides true protection from UVA and UVB rays throughout the day. While encouraging healing, zinc oxide provides near complete opacification to the sun’s rays.

I recently read an article in Health Magazine and they listed the 5 ingredients that have been found in sunscreens that behave like estrogen and stimulate tumor growth and spread cancer cells: * Octyldimethyl-PABA (OD-PABA)
* Benzophenone-3(Bp-3)
* Homosalate (HMS)
* Octyl-Methoxycinnamate (OMC)
* 4-Methyl-Benzylidene Camphor (4-MBC)

New research shows a combination of vitamins C and E provides better protection from UVB damage than vitamin C or vitamin E alone. Micronized minerals are easier to absorb by the skin and enter the system so we elected to used regular minerals for safety of health.

Natural Protectors
* Green tea may be able to prevent skin cancer when applied to your skin. According to findings presented in 2003 at the American Chemical Society annual meeting in New York, a protein called JNK-2 appears to be directly related to the development of skin cancer. This protein can be blocked by the application of green tea polyphenols. After the skin is exposed to UV light, levels of this protein rise and remain high.
* Aloe vera is a desert herb with remarkable and scientifically documented skin-healing qualities. Extremely hydrating, soothing and skin healing.
* Vitamin C stimulates collagen production. Vitamin C is another important topical nutrient for reducing sunburn-related redness and quenching free radical damage that can lead to skin aging as well as skin cancer.
* Vitamin E not only reduces wrinkling and leathering of the skin, but has also shown potential for reducing risk of UV-induced skin cancer, especially when used with Vitamin C.

The number one pigment disorder affecting women of child bearing years,
world wide, is called Melasma
Treating, repairing and protecting the skin against darkening of the pigment cells has become our main research focus the past 7 years. The increase of new clients requesting help with hyperpigmentation discoloration has risen dramatically, overtaking those with Rosacea and Acne, so the demand for effective new products has as well. Most adults we meet are not using sun screens or protective clothing and men unfortunately lead the USA statistics of deadly skin cancer diagnosis.

I watched as my Dad's fair Irish skin succumbed to repeated dermatological snippings for skin cancer. In 2007, Oregon and Washington were # 1 and 2 nationwide for men and women skin cancers reported by doctors. This, I believe, is because in the Pacific NW there is an incorrect attitude that "it rains all the time". If you live in a cloudy region and you have this misconception, please read on!

The primary function of melanin, the skin cells that form "tan" colors, is to protect the other types of skin cells from UV light. When the skin is exposed to UV radiation, melanin synthesis is stimulated to form the "tan". Then melanosomes actually cluster, forming a protective cap over the nucleous of the cell. This is why hyperpigmentation is uneven and grows. The individual melanocytes in melanin form tendrils or branch like shapes that stretch upwards toward the surface of the skin. When you are constantly getting unprotected sun exposure (or tanning beds), this is why the intensity and distribution of "tan" changes. Also, when you are being treated for hyperpigmentation and especially melasma, there is a period of time when you actually look darker "all of a sudden" and then, if you stick to your program, you get your real color back all at once.

As a record number of American women are in various stages of menopause, with a cultural history of tanning fads in their lifetime as well as widespread use of hormone replacement therapies, corticosteroid drugs, recreational drug use, anti-biotics, birth control hormones, anti-anxiety or depression medications and other issues triggering this pigment problem, experts see a tremendous number of patients with pigment disorder symptoms. In turn, their daughters are following in their footsteps, using these drugs and tanning beds more frequently and at an even earlier age, hence showing symptoms earlier than we have observed before the mid-1990's. Known as hyperpigmentation, melasma, chloasma, age spots, liver spots, mask of pregnancy, solar lentigines, freckles, brown patches and xeroderma, photo-damage, actinic or solar keratosis...these individual conditions are quite different and so are the recovery treatments. There is no quick fix for melasma and a lifetime of precautionary care will be advised because the skin cells retain the memory and unless one uses prevention products with tyrosinase inhibitors and broad spectrum sun blocks (all of our sun protection lotions are UVA and UVB specific). The darkening may come back any time your skin is exposed to your triggers. Once you feel you have completed your pigment correction program, practice Tyrosinase inhibitors like GABA, L-Arbutin and Kojic Acid based skin creams or serums every night for a few more weeks to prevent rebound discoloring. Typically, an initial program of skin color recovery (that is, back to your natural color) may take 4-6 months of application of these products and careful defense from triggers. Clinical studies have shown that a significant number of research patients who kept up their skin care products for up to a year did not see recurrence of the same pigmentation coming back to the areas treated. Don't ever get caught outdoors without your sun block! Keep gloves, hats and jacket in your car all year for quick protection. Monthly skin cancer and mole self exams are critical to adults to perform, especially if you have spent your life in the sun.

Take extra precautions with your children because over 80% of lifetime sun damage is caused during our youth (up to 18 years of age). The effects may take up to 20 years from the first sun burn, to start showing up as skin cancer, skin tags, melasma, age spots, wrinkles and lining, broken blood vessels in the skin, loss of skin firmness, poor healing abilities and more. Children are easily taught how to practice safe sun so begin early. Remember: freckles are the body's warning signs of sun damage already taking place in children.

I love the Parasol sunscreen and use it everyday. It's the only sunscreen I've ever seen which is oil-free, non-micronized and chemical-free. Thank you! Zinc oxide protects against the whole UV spectrum on its own. All the best from (sunny) London.

from Liza
i have been using the parasol sunscreen, rose hydrogel, and O moisturizer for a week now and i just love them. the sunscreen is so light and not greasy at all under my mineral powder. this will definitely be my holy grail sunscreen. there are days when just the parasol sunscreen on top of my vitamin C serum is enough moisture for my combo skin. no mid-day oily t-zone at all. my 11 year old daughter who has very sensitive skin is also using the parasol sunscreen and she loves it. we both use the hydro-gel, but i use the derma-glo moisturizer on top of the hydro-gel at night. even our neighbor who had some irritation on her skin and around her lips tried the hydro-gel and she informed me that the next day her skin felt better and her lips were not sore anymore. and, oh, the gentle exfoliant is fabulous. it's like feeding my face with nutritious plants from an organic farm. i don't think it looks "nasty or greenish" (as the testimonial stated) at all. i thought it looked naturally organic -- maybe because i'm just so into natural stuff! anyways, i love the way it softens my skin. thanks for making such wonderful products, and for having them in pump bottles. i never worry that my products will be contaminated. absolutely LOVE your products!

from Pamela
I just wanted to tell how much I LOVE the Parasol sunscreen. I love the way it feels and disappears into my skin. Also, since I am acne prone, I need a sunscreen that won't make me breakout (which is another thing I love about the Parasol).

from Theresa
Have to say that I love your sunscreen. I ordered a sample of it and it's the best I've ever used on my sensitive but oily, acne-prone skin. It didn't make my skin irritated, feel greasy at all and did not cause any breakouts. It's simply the best!

from Lynn
this is good stuff. i do not use it everyday as i should, but the applications have kept my aqualine italian nose from getting red as it did before. i wear glasses and the demarcation of redness has disappeared. now imagine if i use it every day! it leaves absolutely NO white cast on my skin. yeah! and it is so good that when i do use it, it suffices as the perfect moisturizer. my skin feels so smooth and soft and looks healthy. i am hoping to be able to buy the full-size of it and am very curious about the R line that i spied on the site. any input you care to give about the R line would be appreciated. your fan, lynn
